See what professional bathroom remodels cost in your region, and how your quote compares with what households actually paid.
Before you decide
- Moving the toilet, shower or sink drain is what usually pushes a job to the top of the range: plumbing behind the wall and in the floor.
- Tile area, a custom shower and the fixtures you pick move the price more than the room's size.
- Ask whether demolition, disposal, a permit and any repairs found behind the walls are included, and get at least three quotes.
Where these figures come from
The American Housing Survey asks households what they paid for each job. We use completed bathroom remodels done by a professional in 2021–23, weighted to represent all U.S. homes, leaving out insurance-funded repairs. Low and high are the 25th and 75th percentiles. A region gets its own range only where the survey has enough jobs for it to be reliable (relative standard error of 25% or less); in the Northeast and the Midwest it doesn't, so those regions show the national range. Prices as of 2026-08: we bring the 2021–23 figures to today by 15.6%, the change in the BLS producer price index for inputs to residential construction (series WPUIP2311001) from the jobs' years to 2026-08. That index tracks materials, not labour, so treat today's figures as our estimate.
