Heat pump installation cost calculator
National range: $3,900–$10,100 (typical $7,000) for a 3-ton ducted heat pump, like-for-like. Prices as of 2026-08, wages May 2025.
Estimate the installed cost of a ducted or ductless heat pump at your ZIP code, for a simple swap or a bigger job, and check a quote.
Before you decide
- A like-for-like swap on working ducts and wiring is the cheaper job. New ducts, a panel upgrade or a new circuit move you to the higher range.
- Federal heat pump tax credits ended on 2025-12-31; state and utility rebates may still apply.
- Size should come from a load calculation (Manual J).
- The federal minimum for a new split-system heat pump is SEER2 14.3 (10 CFR 430.32(c), U.S. Department of Energy, via eCFR).
